doing what I can

I've made hands and feet today to go with my BJD body. I also made another head which is quite similar to the last head. I'm going to use the model pictures I found yesterday on the internet tomorrow as inspiration instead of leaving it to my own imagination because I always do the same face over and over again.

Found her!

I just want to say that I found the model I was looking for and that's Rachel Williams! I do love her face, wow. Now I can rest a while, get the body together and then these faces are the ones I would like to start with. Goody, looking forward to the future!

Labor Day Weekend!

OK, can't do much more until I receive the "flexwax" molding material I ordered from Dickblick. I've been practicing doing faces until then, when I get the wax I will mold and refine the body. I have been looking up models from the past that I want as inspiration but I don't know their names which makes it a little difficult.I did find one of them, Filippa Hamilton. I think I gravitate towards models that are unisex, ones that would look equally good as guys as they do girls. That's it!

Well the progress is coming right along! I've got to start adding pictures to this blog! I've almost finished a prototype in sculpy firm and sprayed it with clear gloss acrylic. I want to make molds of it in silicone, I had one failed attempt (silicone leaked out yuk!)so now I must do it again. I want to make copies of the proto so I can keep refining it. The best way to get better at something is to do it over and over again, I believe they call it practice?

Back to the ol' drawing board!

Well it's Aug 30th right now and I have been back home in Florida for about 2 weeks. I'm back in full force to get my proto for my BJD finished. Everyone who started on the same project around the same time as I did is so far ahead of me! I'm trying to catch up but I realize it's really not a race. I think it's more that I would love to have the doll that's in my head to be sitting in front of me, now! But I don't want to rush, that leads to sloppiness and in the end makes everything take much longer. I actually want to enjoy the process as exasperating as it may be! Oh those darn knee joints!

Well it's been quite awhile since I've been here! I did receive my Enchanted doll and she is fantastic! I'm still working on my prototype that I think should be ready by Sept.
My plans have been slightly derailed by my having to go up to N.Y. to help my boyfriend get his house ready for sale. But I should be back in Florida by August and will resume with my doll prototype.

I've been working very hard on a new prototype I'm making out of Premier clay. This clay is light, strong and easy to sand and carve. I've pretty much got the chest and torso finished and now I'm working on the arms and legs, exciting! My boyfriend David is having a small room built in the garage where I can work making molds and casting porcelain. I also have a really nice kiln that I'm all ready to fire up, Yes!!!

In the Beginning

I just bought the Bride of Frankenstein, a one of a kind porcelain doll from Marina Bychkova of Enchanted dolls and I am so excited! She should be here within 2 weeks time and she will be my muse. I have been infatuated by this doll for quite some time and now finally she will be mine! I have ordered her a couch and some doll clothing which have not arrived yet either. My other dolls are mute with anticipation, a new member of the family is coming!
I am very inspired by Enchanted Dolls and am now trying my hand at porcelain doll making too. I am still in the prototype stage though I already have all the supplies I need- slip, a kiln ect. to make an actual doll, it's just that I have not got my prototype to quite the place I would like it.

About Me

My photo
I have studied painting and sculpture and still enjoy doing both though sculpting seems to have the dominant spot in my life right now. I have won Doll magazine's "Award of excellence" two years in a row 2013-2014, in the artist ball jointed doll category. I have also won "best of show" this past year at the Orlando Museum of Art.
